Operation
of industrial plants/discharge of sewage,
trade effluent without Consent/Authorisation
It is
mandatory for all industrial operations or process and local
bodies to obtain Consent from the Maharashtra Pollution Control
Board before discharging sewage or trade effluent into a stream
or well or sewer or on land or operating any industrial plant
in an air pollution control area. Similarly for handling of
hazardous wastes Authorisation under the provisions of Hazardous
Wastes (Management & Handling) Rules, 1989 is a pre-requisite.
It has been noticed that
many industries /local bodies have not obtained consent from
the Maharashtra Pollution Control Board and are disposing
of their sewage, trade effluent and air pollutants into the
environment in an illegal manner.
By this notice all the
industries operating in the State of Maharashtra as well as
local bodies functioning within the State are hereby directed
to make an application for grant of consent/Authorisation
under the provisions of Water (Prevention & Control of
Pollution) Act, 1974, Air (Prevention & Control of Pollution)
Act, 1981 and Hazardous Waste (Management & Handling)
Rules, 1989. this shall be done on or before 31st May, 2004.
This is a last opportunity given by the Board to comply with
the provisions of the aforesaid legislations, failing which
the Board will initiate appropriate legal action, which may
include disconnection of electricity, water supply or any
other essential services.
