| The Petitioner is a non-governmental organization and filed the present petition seeking directions for removal of buffalo stables from the municipal corporation area to Dapchari in Thane district. The Petitioner alleged that, there are large number of buffalo stables causing severe nuisance, pollution, health hazard etc. and therefore the same should be shifted to a land acquired by the State Govt. at Dapchari or any other suitable place. |
| The MPCB conducted a comprehensive survey of 1600 buffalo stables in Mumbai Municipal area and submitted a detailed report indicating the environmental status in each of the stables. MPCB also made certain recommendations to prevent and control pollution. |
| By an order dated March 14, 2007, the Hon’ble High Court took a note of the report and appreciated the efforts made by MPCB. The court asked the Municipal Commissioner and Principal Secretary- Animal Husbandry and Dairy Development as well as Principal Secretary, Urban Development Department to take a decision and file their affidavits in the Court by April 25, 2007. |
